The wildlife department of the Ghana forestry commission has officially announced the starting of 2024 closed season on wildlife hunting.
in an exclusive interview with Mr. Josiah Adoko, park manager for Kyabobo national park in Nkwanta of Oti Region, disclosed the theme for this years closed season on Kano FM’s morning show as,
Wildlife; A heritage we must conserve with an urgent call on all sundry to abide by the directives.
Mr. Adoko said, the closed season is an important time to allow wildlife and their habitats to breed.
he however stated that the grasscutters are an exemption due to how quick they breed but nonetheless, a permit has to be acquired from the department to enable hunters hunt grasscutters.
He further stated that , this will help increase wild animal population.
He sent a sign of caution to Ghanaians to abide by the rules and regulations governing wildlife since refusal to adhere will result in fines, imprisonment or both.
He stressed that, the wildlife serves as source recreational site for tourist and income earning medium for the nation.
Mr. Adoko called on the general public to support and cooperate with them from 1st August to December 1st when the closed season will be over.
