USAID (PAA) Trains Media On Local Public Service Delivery Advocacy

United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has organized a two-day regional media training workshop to bolster the capacity of media practitioners in reporting on public service delivery.

The workshop organized under the USAID and Ghana Performance Accountability Activity(PAA) was themed

“Strengthening Media- Civil Society Partnerships for Effective Public Service Delivery Advocacy” and brought together 28 journalists from the Oti and Volta Regions. The participants discussed the crucial role of media in amplifying civil society voices to advocate for quality and accountable local public services, focusing on Education, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, fishing and agriculture.

The training also addressed significant knowledge gaps that limit media practitioners ability to effectively report on local public service Delivery and local governance issues and forged stronger connections between media practitioners and CSO’s dedicated to advocating for improved local services.

Linda Ofori-Kwafo, Chief of party for PAA, emphasised the importance of media in championing accountability in public service delivery.

She added that by bridging the gap between journalist and civil society, we are laying a strong foundation for sustainable and accountable governance at the district and community level.

The training featured a blend of theoretical insights and practical exercises, including interactive sessions with experienced professionals who delivered into the complexities of local public services, explored strategies for gender sensitive reporting and developed effective partnerships with CSO’s.
