ORCC And Ghana Health Service Engages Okada Riders On Teenage Pregnancy.

Between 2016 and 2024, Ghana recorded 542,131 amongst adolescent girls aged 15-19 and 13,444 pregnancies among young teenagers aged 10-14 according to the Ghana Health Service District Information Management Health Systems.

Not only are these numbers worrying, but also a critical concern that has life-time ramifications on the life Health, wealth and well-being of the adolescent, their children, families, communities and the country at large.

Amongst many, these adolescents and young women are prone to several and reproductive health consequences including sexually transmitted diseases, repeated pregnancies, sexually and gender based violence, abuse and exploitation.

As part of UNFPA programme on sensitization against teenage pregnancy, the Oti Regional Coordinating Council and the Municipal Health Directorate brought together all okada and pragia riders for a one day sensitization .

Mrs. Veronica Kaka, Regional Public Health Nurse stressed on the need for the riders to raise the alarm when called pick the adolescent at odd hours.

Up close with Kojo Morrison an okada rider, he advised parents not to allow their adolescent girls to sleep in separate rooms.

He pleaded with UNFPA to organize more of such programmes.
