Rehabilitation works to restore the functionality of street lights within Dambai township and along the Dambai Accra highway has started.
Street lights along residency road, Old town roads, health center road, Banka Wankayaw and Anyabor No 1 are being rehabilitated by an electrical engineering firm from Takoradi in the western region.
Other areas include Kwame akura, Yabram, Kparekpare, Kpalema, Dormabin, Tokuroano, Adonkwanta, Katanga through to Asukawkaw.
The contractor has been mandated to replace malfunctioning bulbs and rewire damaged transformers.
The project is being curried out under the supervision of the Electricity company of Ghana (ECG).
The PRO for ECG Miss Tweneboah Koduah said, although the maintenance of street lights was the responsibility of the metropolitan and municipal Assemblies, but financial constraints had made many of them neglect that responsibility.
Miss Tweneboah expressed worry that rampant thunder strikes has been one of the contributing factors for damage of transformers and other circuits,
” The recent outages has been as a result of similar challenges at the Jasikan sub station,” Telecom companies that laid cables to improve their services often did so without recourse to ECG and thus cause extensive damage to the street lights installation.
Hon. Charles Gyamfi Boateng, the municipal chief executive for Krachi East sees this rehabilitation works as a proactive step towards the improvement of security and the beautification of the various communities.

Mr. Isaac Nagma, a mobile money vendor expressed the gripse of fear which engulfed them anytime the lights go off.
He thanked the municipal chief executive for the swift intervention.
